Summertime is a treat at this lovely Thai restaurant in the Arlington
Forest Shopping Center. On the soft-shell-crab menu you'll find eight
soft-shell preparations, each one worth trying. The fresh crabs are
battered and fried to a greaseless crispness, then sauced with combinations
of vegetables and spices. The version with chili sauce and Thai basil
is particularly good. Start with the Rainbow Shrimp, stuffed, wrapped
in seaweed, and deep-fried, or with the green-papaya salad. Soups are
very good. There's a good selection of Thai curries--the green chicken
curry with bamboo shoots and basil leaves in coconut milk was very good
on a recent visit. Both Spicy Seafood and Spicy Squid are spicy as advertised,
the seafood combined with chili sauce, carrots, and basil leaves and
the squid with chili paste, fresh chilies, and basil. The pad Thai here
is a model version, not too sweet, studded with shrimp and chicken,
and crunchy with bean sprouts.
